We are off to a busy start, and I am looking forward to a great year. I hope that you have had the opportunity to browse through the class paperwork that was sent home at the beginning of the year. If your child misplaced the papers, please let me know so I can get additional copies to you.
Homework
You may have noticed your child bringing home a planner each evening. Every day in class, we will be writing down the homework for the day in the planners. Feel free to ask your child to show you his/her planner so you can check their homework assignments for the day. I also post the assignments on the class website under the Daily Homework page, so you can refer there as well.
Calypso Farm field trip
Next Wednesday, August 29, our class will be visiting Calypso Farm. While we are there, we will be exploring insects and forest ecology, which are both topics in our 4th grade Science curriculum. To help cover the cost of the field trip, we are asking students to bring in $5. I am also looking for 3 adults who would be able to help chaperone our trip. We will leave Weller at 9:30 am, and will return to the school at approximately 12:30 in time for lunch. Please see the information your child brought home today for additional information.
Next week:
In Reading, we will continue to practice reading to self and exploring characters, setting and plot in stories.
In Writing, we will be looking at how to find ideas to write about, as well as use Thinking Maps to organize our writing.
In Math, we will continue to work through Unit 1, which looks at geometry. Be watching for math "target practice" homework to come home beginning next week.
In Science, we will look at characteristics of insects.
